Greenbrier Plantation- Genevieve and Ethan
Since they discovered the locket at Greenbrier, Ethan and Lena have experienced mysterious visions that transport them to a scene buried deep in Gatlin's past. Using these flashbacks, they are able to not only find the Book of Moons, but also to prevent Lena from going Dark. The visions show clips from the past that help explain the present. Ethan and Lena were taken to a Civil War era Ravenwood Manor and a neighboring plantation, Greenbrier, which was burnt to the ground by Union soldiers. In another vision, they see their ancestors, Genevieve Duchannes and Ethan Carter Wate. Genevieve was a Castor like Lena and was in love with Ethan. Ethan Carter was a deserter and trying to run from both the Confederacy and Union. His enemies eventually catch up to him and burn Genevieve's home, Greenbrier to the ground. Ethan Carter did not survive, and she would not accept it. Being a Light Caster, Genevieve was not capable of necromancy, so she searched into the Book of Moons to grant her power. This power came with a price, however, and caused a curse on the Duchannes family for eternity. Lena and Ethan, after acquiring this knowledge, are able to reverse the curse.
