Reviews
One of the reasons I chose to read Beautiful Creatures is because of the positive reviews I stumbled upon online. Not only is this book critically acclaimed, but it is also being made into a movie of the same name. When people write reviews, they do so to help readers choose the hardcover that is right of them. This is the cause of me reading this book. People just praised the writing and the characters in this novel.
Relatable
Another reason this book was decided upon is because of the likeability and relatability of the characters. Each person can be compared to someone in real life. For instance, at my school, we have the girl group that personifies Savannah Snow and Emily Asher. The teenage characters think and act like someone their age would. It is easy to put yourself in their shoes and ask ‘What would I do in that situation’. Reading this book is an easy way to be transported into another world. It’s almost like experiencing the conflicts firsthand. Upon completing Beautiful Creatures, I felt as if I had a personal connection with the characters and sadness for what they had to face. Making the characters personable and relatable was a reason why I read this book.
Topic
When people read books, they read a novel that interests them. I selected Beautiful Creatures because it involved regular, everyday people and a supernatural twist. I enjoy stories that show how someone so seemingly normal can become something great. This book was fast paced and full of adventure. Once you start reading you cannot put it down. It was so descriptive and full of imagination. The topic made it easy to get lost in the world the authors created. Supernatural books allow the reader to escape all of their daily problems. The topic of Beautiful Creatures is one reason why I read it.
Life Lessons
The last reason I decided to read this book is because of the important life lessons that every reader can benefit from. The first is to know your enemies, because even the ones that are the most trusted can betray. Lena’s cousin Ridley is an example of this. Her spastic and irrational thinking almost killed the people Lena loves the most. Another lesson Beautiful Creatures tells is to never give up hope on the things treasured most. Just because someone may think a cause is lost, it does not mean that the spirit cannot be resurrected. This book had many values that everyone could use to improve their lives.
